Site News Archive 2000

When news gets deleted from the front page, they're moved to this page. There are no news older than September 1999, though. I'v kept the links as they were when they were on the main page, but lots of them probably doesn't work anymore.

December 2000

News, December 28: It's been a tough December - no time for making all the changes I wanted to. The Graphics section is always popular at this time - it quadruples its hitcount in December - and I released a few new pages without telling anybody but the search engines, and it seems as if the new pages have been found by users as well...
I finally had the time to type in the Riddles 134-138 for December; riddle 137 is the Christmas biggie - a bit out of date now, but still worth giving a try.
I'm still refining my new design, and the new version will definitely not be released within the next couple of months.
I've had many visitors recently, from as exotic places as American Samoa, Zimbabwe,Dominican Republic, Panama, Egypt, Nepal and Morocco. Hello to you all!

November 2000

News, November 5: First of all, the Riddles 130-133 for November are up and running. I'm working on the December riddles as well - the Christmas riddle ios going to be a complex one, like Riddle 100. The server was upgraded later today, so the site was offline for about an hour.

October 2000

No news this month...

September 2000

News, September 23: First of all, the Riddles 125-129 for October are up and running. A couple of days ago, the assistant page reached 20000 hits, which I see as a motivation to get it updated... now, let's see when I get the time.
I'm also working on a new pagelayout, which I hope should be up and running before 2001; it uses standard CSS, so most modern browsers shouldn't choke on it.

August 2000:

News, August 30: I'm home with some nasty virus, and there really isn't any Norton for humans, so I've spent the last couple of days feeling really crappy. Unfortunaly this doesn't mean I have extra time for this site - well, I do, but wasn't really able to do much more than stay in bed with tons of tea and a couple of good books that I read when I was not asleep... Today seems to be much better, which means two things: Back to work again tomorrow, and the Riddles 121-124 for September are up and running. I'd written them several weeks ago, so it was actually just a matter of converting them to HTML.

News, August 20: Riddles 117-120 for August are up and running.

News, August 13: I finally got that scanner - a Canon 630P, which is probably the easiest peripheral to install I've ever tried; cute little thing too! This means I can start add pictures of my own without having to bother others to get to use their scanners. Till now, there are a few new pics on Nuser's page.
I know I'm a little behind on the riddle frontier, but I haven't had much time to work with this site after we got back from the US. They'll be up as soon as I've done them.

July 2000:

News, July 23: A little update on the Friends page... Due to lack of time, I've had to cut drastically down on my corresponding, so the list is pretty much shorter. I had to say goodbye to a lot of good old friends, which was a hard thing to do. A pity. So, by the way, if you drop in here via one of those PenPal sites I published my data to about 3 years ago, I don't take up new penpalships.
Rearranging in the Cactus/Succulent section, but not much...

News, July 11: Somehow our ISP managed to route all traffic to our server out to some other network gadget which definitely wasn't a web- or mailserver. The problem should be fixed now, but this is the reason the site was "gone" for 5-6 hours today.
I'm back from my vacation in Nevada and California, and really had a great time. Favourite places were Valley of Fire and Lassen Volcanic National Park - but this probably doesn't interest you anyway :-) I'll put up a few pics for those who are curious later this week, I hope.
Oh yes, I just had to write a conversion we had with a woman in a Las Vegas souvenir store:
Her: You're Dutch, right?
Us: No, we're Danish
Her: Oh, that's the same
Oh well... Two small European countries being very far away. To the defence of the Americans, 98% of those we talked to actually knew where/what Denmark is or at least pretended to. But strangely, most took a guess that we were Dutch. Must be the accent.

June 2000

News, June 21: A hub had a near-death experience last night, while we were watching Plan 9 from Outer Space, so the connection was off for a few hours.
Riddles for July are here.

News, June 18: More graphics for the needy. Who Am I has been updated a bit, and so has the Incompatibility page.
We moved the server some weeks ago - both physically and "mentally" (new IP), and such things may take their time to sift through the big, big internet (more specifically, not all DNS-servers updates as fast as they should), so if you experienced trouble getting to see this site, you know why. Some mail has been bouncing, but now everything should be in order.

May 2000

News, May 20:A new pack of riddles are ready...go to the Riddle Index to try them out!.

April 2000

News, April 24:Happy Easter, everyone! A few stories has been added to the Incompatibility page and a weird screenshot has been added to the Screenshot page.

News, April 16: As they were ready, I didn't see any reason to NOT publish them already: Here are the riddles for May! I've also updated the TechNest page, adding links to my favourite software and removing comments about software I don't use anymore.

News, April 2: I don't really have any updates to tell you about... but as the site now has passed 250,000 requested pages in all, I thought it could be funny to share some statistics with you:
Microsoft Internet Explorer accounted for 51% of the visits or 130,000 hits; Netscape users came in second with 72,000 hits and other browser and robots accounted for the rest - 390 of these hits came from Opera users.
In similar, 73% of the hits come from Windows computers, 2% from Unix computers and 2% from Macs and 22% didn't reveal their operating system.
Thinking of it, it's not surprising, as I don't have any Unix or Mac relevant stuff on the site, but a couple of rather popular pages relevant to Microsoft Office users...
.com is the most popular domain among the visitors with almost 60,000 hits, closely followed by computers only revealing their IP-address (54,000), .dk (46,000), .net (44,091). The next domains in this Top-10 have significantly lower counts: .edu (8300), .uk (4800), .ca (4600), .nl (2600), .se (2400) and .us (2100).
Anyway, if you'll dig into the more subtle part of the site statistics, take a look at the always updated Statistics page.
I'm working with Windows and I'm proud of it, so when I realised with fear that I still described myself as a COBOL programmer on the Who Am I page, I had to rewrite a few lines there... The FAQ has been updated as well.

March 2000

News, March 26: Riddles for April are now here. As I've now passed 100 riddles, I decided to celebrate it by making #100 a little more complex (though not difficult). I've been a busy person recently, not leaving me much time for updates or replying to mails. Sorry, folks! I split the guestbook in two again to separate the 1999 entries from the 2000 entries.

February 2000

News, February 27: In the Graphics section, there's a new Silly Alphabet; and the riddles for March are here as well.

News, February 21: For those speaking Danish, I've added another recipe - "Torskerogn i wok". My dog, Nuser, died last week, so there's a tiny change in the text on her homepage.

News, February 7: Hello again! And thanks to Johan Lemmers and Ronald Brak who both were so kind as to mention where all those Cistron-people have found my URL!

News, February 6: Hello to everybody from the Netherlands! Seems as if the Euronerd test has been mentioned somewhere - at least I've had "tons" (well, during one hour it got as many hits as it usually gets during 24 hours) of Dutch visitors, especially from Cistron. Welcome! (If one of you would be so kind as to tell me, where you've heard about this site, I'd be very thankful!).
I've updated Who Am I. One story has been added to Incompatibility, and I've added a page with silly, weird and funny screenshots.

January 2000

News, January 31: I'm busy! But at least, February's riddles are here!

News, January 1: Hope everybody had a great new year and that the y2k bug kept its nose to itself. Till now, we - knock on wood - haven't had any problems; only an old PC freaked out, claiming that we are now in 2094; anyway, we'd left its BIOS unmodified just for the fun of it.
January's riddles are out on time - 5 new ones for you to play with!
