Nuser...

Nuser, a female Yorkshire Terrier, was born on September 6, 1989. Jens & I got her in June 1998, when Jens' mother died. She adapted quickly to the nerdy lifestyle, and within short time, she was the master of the house. If a dog can have a personality - and I think so - Nuser definitely had a strong one. She knew what she wanted, and she usually got it.

In September 1998, the vet found out after some blood tests that Nuser had age related diabetes, and she was put on a strong diet - special dog food and only vegetables. This was when we realised that Nuser was very fond of bell peppers, carrots - and garlic(!). We knew that the diabetes would probably some day take Nuser from us, but until autumn 1999, when she lost her sight on one eye, she wasn't bothered in any way by her disease. Losing the sight on one eye didn't bother her either, though she started being more of a pet-me-dog than a play-with-me-dog. She was more than 10 years and it was winter, so no wonder she'd rather have her tummy nudged indoors than going outside in the dark and cold...

On February 13, she lost her sight on the other eye within 24 hours, which for us - and much more for her - was a very scary thing, as she was confused and frightened because she was suddenly unable to recognise her surroundings. Her visit to the vet on February 14 should be her last, as we decided - and this is maybe the hardest decision I've ever been part of - that it was better to put her to sleep, as she would never get her eye sight again. She slept peacefully into her death. She will surely be missed.

Nuser & Dogbert
Nuser and Dogbert.
If you know the cartoon Dilbert, you also know Dogbert. Nuser and Dogbert had much in common, like the quest for world domination, which turns out to be boring when achieved - taking a long nap on a nice pillow is much more comfortable.

We got a couple of squash (and a watermelon), each weighing 2500 g - which was 20% more than Nuser... When it's dark, cold winter, the cosiest thing was to sleep in our bed, and if something happened, Nuser just popped her nose out.

She was quite fond of her diet food, but this didn't mean that she diodn't want any of our food (which she wasn't allowed to get, unless it was vegetables). A golden rule was to always put the chair under the table after eating, or Nuser would be on the table within a splitsecond. Here, somebody forgot that and Nuser was hoping nobody saw her. She didn't any leftovers, though.

Here's another picture of a little dog curling up in the bed (and shedding hair all over - never use black pillows and down comforters, if you have a Yorkie!).

Jens had brought an instrument from Fluke home one day and was playing with its features, while Nuser slept on his shoulder. The instrument's beep woke her up and caught her curiosity.

Oh, what a sleepy dog; a pillow in a ray of sun and a long nap - and then that silly photographer wakes me up! Yaaaawn!

Nuser saying please... Nuser wants to play!
Well... this was the typical "Oh, please, give me a bite of that chocolate bar, please, please, please?"-look - usually seen milliseconds before she did her stunt-power-jump trying to grab the whole chocolate bar for herself...  "Okay... play with me and my squeaking rubber crocodile - now!"
Her favourite playtoy was a rubber crocodile which looked like the young result of a genetic experiment involving both Mozilla and Godzilla, so it was naturally named Nuzilla...

Portrait of Nuser Nuser getting her fur done
"Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's dogs on Animal Planet" - Nuser enjoyed watching TV, especially when the soundtrack has a lot of animal sounds... cats of any kind made her furious.

"Oh no, not the kitchen table, please, no..." Nuser hated getting her hair done, but being a long-haired primadonna, this was necessary (no, we didn't use the grater seen in the background for her fur).

Nuser almost asleep Nuser and her toys
Nuser went to the hairdresser 4 times a year (she didn't actually go there, she was dragged there), and afterwards, you really need to get some sleep...

Here she is again... with all her play toys but probably just thinking of how to make the photographer stop taking pictures and start giving her some real attention instead.
