NerdBird's Riddle Archive

Every weekend a new logic riddle is published here (please forgive me, if real life now and then forces me to delay the publishing) and old riddles are moved to the archive. Every riddle has been constructed and tested by me, but still I won't guarantee that they "work". Never mind, go ahead and try!

Riddle #60 (published July 6, 1999)

Down at the souvenir- and candy shop at the beach, they sell a lot of candy and various junk to the children who play on the beach. Janet bought 2 postcards and a teddy bear. An ice cream costs 5. Everybody spent less than 70. Joel didn’t buy any teddy bears or lollipops. A postcard costs 3 and all in all, the children bought 32 of them. Jane spent all her money - the same amount as Joanne - on teddy bears. James and Janet bought the same number of lollipops. A teddy bear costs 20. Janet spent 33 in all. Joanne spent all her money on postcards. Joel and Janet bought one ice cream each. A lollipop costs 1. Joel spent 35 in all. James didn’t buy ice cream. 4 teddy bears were sold.

How much did James spend?
