I'm not a Danish citizen, but I'll be in Copenhagen on a business trip/holiday/whatever. Can you notarize me?
Sure, as long as you are already registered with Thawte. Nationality is not an issue, as long as we share a common language (we understand Danish, English, Swedish, and Norwegian).
How many points do I need?
To get your name on your certificate, you'll need 50 points (at a minimum).
How many points can a notary give?
Up to 35 points. This means that you'll have to consult at least two notaries to reach 50 points. A notary can decide to give less than 35 points, if he/she finds the quality of the ID shown less acceptable.
How many notaries are there in your area?
At present, we are three: Jan Hauge, Jens Fallesen and Lærke Thomasen. Jens & Lærke usually do sessions together, in which you can get the necessary 50 points (more specific, you'll get up to 70 points).
Can all notaries give 35 points?
No. Like ordinary users earn points by consulting several notaries, the notaries gain anciennity by notarising users. The higher anciennity, the higher possible limit of point giving. For the time being, all three Copenhagen notaries can give 35 points.
What should I bring?
Bring your passport and a copy (one copy per notary) of it. The notary keeps the copy. Also bring the fee. Also remember what your Thawte-ID is.
What is my Thawte-ID?
The Thawte-ID is the ID you use to log in to Thawtes website. It's PROBABLY your e-mail address.
What happens at a notarisation session?
You and the notary fills out a form, wherein you ask for points and sign, and the notary attests that he/she has met you inperson and
trusts you and the ID you've shown. The notary keeps these documents for at least 5 years along with the copy of your passport. Thawte can at any time ask to see these papers.
Who has access to the information I give at a session?
You, the notary and Thawte. The notary may not give your information to any third party and has to keep the documents in a secure place.
When do I get my points?
As soon as the notary registers your points with Thawte, usually within 24 hours, often before. The notary will probably tell you, when he/she expects to register you.
What should I do afterwards?
Request a new certificate. It will contain your name.
Who decides the size of the fee?
The notary. Some tries to earn money from this; others are more idealistic and just wants a symbolic fee to cover transport and spent time.
Your fee is 50 DKK. Do I HAVE to pay in Danish currency?
No. If you're just passing through the country, we don't expect you to have any Danish cash on you. We accept US dollars,
English Pound Sterling, Swedish kronor, German Marks and Euros (when available) as well.
Cash only. Discuss these details with the notary when you make the appointment.
Does Thawte pay you anything?
No.
Which area do you cover?
As standard, greater Copenhagen. We do travel occasionally, so don't hesitate to contact us anyway. Skåne (Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg) is within our reach as well, but in that case, we increase the fee to include the toll for crossing Øresundsbron.
Can you notarise several people in one session?
Sure! The more the merrier! One meeting with three persons is better than three meetings with one person,
so if you're a group of people, try making an arrangement for the group (you might also get a discount on the
fee, if you're 5 or more persons).
Do you have a recurring appointment where I can just show up?
No, there are not "customers" enough for that here. All sessions have to be arranged individually.
When I contact you, should I sign my mail?
Not necessarily. No certificate is better than a corrupt certificate, which
makes lots of mail programs freak out.
What's a typical meetingplace?
A public place such as Copenhagen Airport or the Main Library; or semi-public places such as hotel bars and universities.
How do I make an appointment with you?
To make an appointment, use the emails for us provided at the Thawte website. If you want to get an appointment with Jens & I, write directly to
notary@nerdbird.dk.
